TOURNAMENT RECAP — SAN DIEGO WAVE FC RIDES UNDEFEATED RUN TO W7F TROPHY

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA (DEC. 7, 2025) — After three days of elite football action at Beyond Bancard Field, San Diego Wave FC emerged as the class of an eight-team field to win World Sevens Football’s first North American Event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
With five wins from five, 14 goals scored, and commanding performances throughout, San Diego earned the right to lift the second-ever W7F title and take home the $2,000,000 prize.
The 2025 field was headlined by powerhouse clubs including Flamengo (Brazil), Club América (Mexico), Deportivo Cali (Colombia), Tigres (Mexico), Toronto (Canada), Kansas City Current (USA), Club Nacional de Football (Uruguay), and San Diego Wave FC (USA). Clubs were split into two, four-team groups for pool play.
Tigres were victorious in Group One after going 2-1 in pool play, defeating AFC Toronto (3-2) and Flamengo (3-0) but falling to the Kansas City Current in a penalty shootout. Group Two was topped by San Diego Wave FC, the only undefeated club in the W7F Tournament.
The Wave’s Makenzy Robbe topped the team’s scoring table with four goals while Adriana Leon added three scores and an assist. Gia Corley earned the Breakout Player Award while Golden Glove winner DiDi Haričić posted two clean sheets, surrendered only two goals and made 12 saves in five games.
Tigres’ Maria Sánchez took home both the Golden Ball, presented by Invisalign and the Golden Boot after posting a tournament-high six goals along with two assists.
Thousands of patrons brought passion to the Beyond Bancard Grandstand which was fueled by visitors from all over the world with drums, chants, and vibrant energy.
Fans from across the globe tuned in live on DAZN, TNT Sports Univision networks, ESPN and Disney+, joining those on hand in Florida to witness the second chapter of a new event in women’s football history.
