SAN DIEGO OPEN THEIR W7F CAMPAIGN WITH ENERGETIC WIN OVER DEPORTIVO CALI

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA (DEC. 5, 2025) — San Diego Wave marked their World Sevens Football debut with a lively 3–1 victory over Deportivo Cali, delivering quality and composure in a match played to the soundtrack of an electric Colombian crowd.

San Diego struck instantly through Cascarino, who sliced through the Cali back line and fired home inside the first minute. The Colombians responded with determination, and their pressure paid off when Leidy Cobos’ effort bounced off the goalkeeper and rolled into the corner to level the score. But just before the break, Nya Harrison created a moment of real class, setting up Makenzy Robbe for a cool finish to restore the Wave’s lead.

Cali pushed hard after halftime and came inches from equalizing, only for Quincy McMahon to produce a heroic goal-line clearance that kept San Diego in front. As the match opened up, the Wave found the decisive third when Kenza Dali beat her marker and delivered a perfect cross for Hanna Lundkvist to smash home on the volley.

San Diego left with their first win of the tournament, while Deportivo Cali’s vibrant, drum-fueled supporters section stole the show in the stands, turning game two into a celebration of football, rhythm, and pure W7F energy
