THRILLING MOMENTS IN EXTRA TIME WERE ON ORDER FOR MATCH TWO AS KCC TRIUMPHS IN PENALTIES

NWSL CHAMPS KANSAS CITY EDGE TIGRES IN SECOND PENALTY SHOOTOUT OF THE DAY

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA (DEC. 6, 2025) — Kansas City Current secured their first win of the tournament after a gripping 2–2 draw with Tigres, prevailing 2–1 in sudden death penalties in a nail-biting second match of the day.

Tigres started strong, firing early shots that rattled the post and kept KCC on their toes. But it was Sydney Jones who broke the deadlock for Kansas City against the run of play, finishing a sharp cross from Alex Pfeiffer. Tigres responded fiercely, with María Sánchez continuing her scoring spree, netting twice before halftime to turn the game around, her fourth and fifth goals of the tournament cementing her status as queen of the pitch, so far.

Kansas City refused to back down. Ellie Wheeler struck back late to level things up, pushing the game into a tense overtime. Both sides had chances, including a spectacular save from Tigres’ keeper Cecilia Santiago, but neither could find a winner, sending the game to penalties.

In sudden death, Ally Sentnor stepped up to seal the win for KCC, keeping the NWSL champs’ hopes alive with a dramatic shootout victory. Another high-octane clash in this W7F tournament that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
