LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 29, 2026) – In front of a packed, cheering crowd singing “Glory, Glory, Man United,” the Red Devils showed that they are among the favourites at World Sevens Football London Edition, blanking Aston Villa, 4-0.

Goalkeepers Phallon Tullis-Joyce and Safia Middleton-Patel combined for the first clean sheet of the tournament, with the former producing multiple stunning saves to keep the Villans at bay.

After netting a total of eleven goals in their opening matches of the tournament, Manchester United and Aston Villa started off with a focus on protecting their back lines. But Melvine Malard got the scoring started in the seventh minute, shaking a defender and then powering a shot inside the right post that left Villans keeper Sabrina D'Angelo helpless at the goal line.

Both teams’ netminders shone in the first half. Ebony Salmon had a strong chance to equalize in the 12th minute, but Tullis-Joyce dove for the one-handed stop. Just moments later, Julia Zigiotti Olme looked to have Manchester United’s second goal locked up until D’Angelo palmed the ball off the woodwork to safety.

But the Red Devils would not be denied for long, with Anna Sandberg tapping in a perfect cross from Gabby George at the right post just before the halftime whistle. The late goal put Manchester United ahead 2-0 entering the break.

The Red Devils extended their lead in the second half. After Ella Toone’s initial shot was blocked by D’Angelo, Millie Turner followed up twice from close range to put her side up 3-0. Jess Park added a stunner in the 26th minute, launching a rocket from a sharp angle that sailed over D’Angelo and into the roof of the net.

The referees continued to star in the walkouts, this time showcasing their line dance skills as they strutted out to “Cotton-Eye Joe.” But they might have been upstaged by the full Villans squad sporting shades in a coordinated entrance performance.
