LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 28, 2026) – In a match in which both goalkeepers drew consistent oohs and aahs from the crowd, Leicester City outlasted London City Lionesses, 2-1, in the clubs’ first fixture of World Sevens Football London Edition. Foxes attacker Rosella Ayane had a goal and an assist in the winning effort.

London City did not go down easily. Alanna Kennedy blasted a strike into the bottom-right corner in the 29th minute to pull her side within one and give them hope. But Leicester City was able to withstand any further damage – especially after netminder Katie Keane pushed a sailing shot over the bar in the final minute to preserve the victory.

Ayane scored the eventual match-winner in the 24th minute, bringing supporters to their feet. The Moroccan striker drilled a shot into the top-left corner of the net just moments after London City keeper Emily Orman made a deft save, giving the Foxes the 2-0 lead.

Leicester City dealt the opening blow in the fifth minute, with defender Nelly Las overcoming a late London City tackle to edge the ball over the line for the 1-0 lead. Ayane was key in the build-up, drawing the defense to spring Las free.

Orman made a crucial save in the closing minutes of the first half, diving to block a shot from a wide-open Noémie Mouchon after Foxes wingback Julie Thibaud set her up perfectly.

The London City Lionesses’ band kept supporters entertained throughout the match, encouraging their faithful with tunes from the pitchside supporter deck.
