GUTIÉRREZ ‘GOLAZO’ SEALS BRONZE FOR CLUB AMÉRICA
MEXICAN SIDE TAKES HOME $700,000 IN THIRD-PLACE PRIZE MONEY

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA (DEC. 7, 2025) — Club América and Flamengo came into the third-place showdown with identical records, matching ambition, and one very big incentive on the line: $700,000. After 30 exceptional minutes, it was América who held their nerve, taking a razor-thin 1–0 win to secure a podium finish at World Sevens.
Both sides exchanged heavy punches early. Camberos came inches from striking first, and moments later, Gláucia rattled the crossbar as the game burst into life. Montserrat forced a brilliant stop from Vivi Holzel, while the first half closed goalless.
The breakthrough arrived in spectacular fashion. With time slipping away, Jana Gutiérrez produced a moment straight out of a highlight reel, lifting the ball over Flavia Mota before smashing a volley into the net. A strike in contention for goal of the tournament.
América pushed for a second, hitting the post through Nancy Antonio, while Flamengo threw bodies forward in desperation, even rotating an outfielder with their keeper in their final attacks. But the Mexican side defended with just enough grit to survive the late storm.
After an insanely tight battle, the whistle blew: Club América 1, Flamengo 0. América walk away with third place and a well-earned prize, while Flamengo fall just short of the podium. With two proud campaigns wrapped up, all eyes now shift to the W7F final.
