FLAMENGO CLINCHES DRAMATIC PENALTY WIN OVER AFC TORONTO IN DAY TWO OPENER
EARLY FIREWORKS ON MATCH DAY TWO IN AN ELECTRIC OPENER TO THE SESSION

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, USA (DEC. 6, 2025) — Flamengo kept the samba spirit alive with a thrilling victory over AFC Toronto in the opening match of day two at World Sevens Football, prevailing 2–1 on penalties after a tense 2–2 draw in regular time.
Toronto wasted no time striking early as Kaylee Hunter finished coolly following a slick pass from captain Nikki Small. But Flamengo responded instantly — Gláucia scoring her third goal of the tournament with a classy finish beneath the keeper to level the match just a minute later. The pace slowed after the opening minutes, with both teams locked in tight defensive battles heading into halftime.
The second half saw Toronto push hard, finally breaking the deadlock when Ashley Cathro’s cleverly struck free kick deflected off Flamengo’s wall and caught keeper Vivi Holzel off guard. The Canadians dominated play, coming agonizingly close when Hopkins rattled the crossbar. Flamengo refused to buckle, though, with Ju Ferreira powering home a late equalizer to send the game into sudden-death overtime, a W7F Florida first.
In the tense penalty shootout, Flamengo’s Vivi Holzel rose to heroics, saving Esther Okoronkwo’s penalty to secure Flamengo’s second straight win and leave Toronto with back-to-back defeats. A fiercely competitive, edge-of-your-seat encounter. W7F continues to deliver pure, electric football.
Immediately after the shootout, the party was on as Flamengo covered every corner of the pitch, celebrating with each other and fans as their signature win music blasted from the DJ booth.
