Everton Flashes Both Offense and Defense in Win
The Toffees made the most of their opportunities to hold off London City Lionesses, 2-1.
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 28, 2026) – Settling into form in their second match of World Sevens Football London Edition, Everton played combined a stalwart defensive effort with timely scores and stops to thwart London City Lionesses, 2-1.
Zara Kramzar registered a goal and an assist to keep the Toffees’ chances of advancing out of Group 1 alive.
The contest opened with the referees donning W7F bucket hats, and the entertainment – and style – only grew from there. London City took the pitch sporting their teal “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports” kits, and their band got things started with an instrumental rendition of “Backstreet’s Back.”
Everton controlled the pace and took the lead in the first 15 minutes. Ruby Mace registered the only score of the first half with a clinical finish in the seventh minute, receiving the ball near the penalty spot on a one-timed pass from Kramzar before delivering a calm and collected strike.
London City’s Nikita Parris appeared to be in on goal just moments later, but Toffees keeper Emily Ramsey smothered the attempt at the right post.
Despite trailing 1-0, London City Lionesses opened the second half on the front foot, possessing the ball and asking questions of the Everton back line. However, the Toffees found their form as the half progressed.
Yuka Momiki seemed to have a chance to add to the Everton’ lead on a counterattack in the 23rd minute, but London City held strong. Just moments later, Toni Payne was in on goal alone. However, keeper Elene Lete fought off Payne’s attempt and preserved London City Lionesses’ chance to equalize.
Kramzar finally ended the impasse in the 27th minute, finishing from the top of the penalty box to give the Toffees a more comfortable 2-0 lead.
Within the blink of an eye, London City clawed back to within one on a brilliant header from Lucía Corrales at the left post. But Everton was able to run out the clock and hang on for the triumph.
