Everton Buries Eight Goals in Attacking Masterclass

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 29, 2026) – Facing off in a contest that would see the winner advance to the semifinals, Everton and Leicester City scored a record 10 combined goals in a dominant 8-2 victory for the Toffees. Everton’s eight goals also set a single-side World Sevens Football record.

The Toffees added a new touch to player introductions, giving birth to the match ball that would feature in their historic victory. And Everton took control from the opening whistle, finding the back of the Leicester City net four times and conceding just once in the first half.

Katja Snoeijs struck for Everton in just the second minute, tucking away a shot from the edge of the eighteen just inside the left post. Three minutes later, Zara Kramzar set Kelly Gago up perfectly for a tap-in finish to put the Toffees up, 2-0.

But Noémie Mouchon put the Foxes back in the match just moments later, firing a shot off the left post to halve Everton’s lead.

Snoeijs broke free on a chipped long ball from Hannah Blundell and blasted a rocket past Leicester keeper Janina Leitzig to push the Toffees ahead, 3-1, in the 11th minute. Clare Wheeler added another in the 14th minute, finding the top-left corner to pad the Everton advantage to three.

The match seemed like it might have to be called at halftime because the supporters were having too much fun endlessly singing the catchy chorus of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten.” Even the Toffees and the Foxes got in on the act, waving their hands along with the tune.

But the Everton players showed no rust when the second-half whistle blew, scoring almost immediately. Ruby Mace’s clinical finish from the top of the penalty box had fans leaping from their seats as the Toffees went up by a 5-1 margin.

The scoring binge would continue, with Maz Pacheco dancing her way through the Leicester City defense before laying the ball off to Blundell for Everton’s sixth tally of the match in the 23rd minute. Hikaru Kitagawa then added another just moments later with a back-heeled classic, giving the Toffees a 7-1 lead.

The Foxes got one back when Denny Draper poached one at the left post in the 28th minute. But Everton’s Rosa van Gool notched another with just 15 seconds remaining to complete the Toffees’ offensive onslaught.
