Match 5 Recap — Man City survive AJAX scare
Man City prevail 6-5 in shootout thriller

CITY WIN FIRST W7F PENALTY SHOOTOUT
ESTORIL, PORTUGAL (22 May, 2025) — Manchester City kicked off the second day of the World
Sevens Football tournament with a rollercoaster 6–5 penalty shootout win over Ajax, after a
gripping 2–2 draw in regular time and a breathless golden goal period. Brazilian sensation
Kerolin opened the scoring with another solo masterpiece, her third goal in two games, before
rising England star Jess Park made it two with a dazzling bit of footwork and a cool finish. Ajax
kept their composure though, clawing their way back with a penalty from Lily Yohannes and a
last-gasp equalizer from Danique Noordman, forcing the first overtime of the tournament.
Golden goal extra time delivered non-stop drama, but neither side could break through in the
5v5 showdown. After both keepers missed in sudden-death penalties, it was City captain Laura
Coombs who slotted home the winner, keeping City unbeaten and delivering a high-octane
start to the day in Estoril.
