LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (MAY 29, 2026) – In the clubs’ final match of Group 2 play at World Sevens Football London Edition, Aston Villa outlasted West Ham, 3-2, in a back-and-forth contest.

Villans goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo continued to make a case for the Golden Glove, posting five saves and shutting down the Hammers’ attack down the stretch.

Rachel Daly got things started in style, trapping a ball from Kirsty Hanson at the top of the penalty box and then blasting a volley while falling to get Aston Villa on the scoresheet less than 90 seconds in. But Shelina Zadorsky did not let the margin widen, equalizing within the next three minutes.

Estelle Cascarino seemed like she might net a go-ahead goal for West Ham in the 12th minute, but D'Angelo pushed the ball off the woodwork and to safety. And in the 14th minute, Ebony Salmon beat Hammers goalkeeper Kinga Szemik to give Aston Villa the advantage instead.

Just moments later, Lucia Kendall launched a rocket from close range to put the Villans ahead, 3-1, at the halftime whistle.

Tuva Hansen showed off her World Sevens Football championship experience, getting the momentum going for West Ham again with a one-timed finish off of a back heel from Riko Ueki. The score cut Aston Villa’s lead to 3-2 with eight minutes remaining.

With their advantage shrinking, the Villans set their feet in front of D’Angelo in the waning moments of the match. Cascarino had another golden opportunity for the Hammers with a set piece from just outside the penalty box in the 29th minute, but her attempt sailed just wide of the top corner. And D’Angelo tipped Seraina Piubel’s shot over the bar just seconds later to preserve the 3-2 victory.
