World Sevens Football Adds Chelsea FC Women to Lock in Eight-Team Lineup for Inaugural London Edition
Schedule finalised for 28–30 May at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, creating an unmissable few days of women’s football
LONDON (18 May 2026) – World Sevens Football (W7F), the innovative 7v7 women’s football series, has confirmed its full lineup for the inaugural London Edition, with the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL)’s Chelsea FC Women rounding out the group of eight participating teams.
The club will join Aston Villa Women, Everton Women, Manchester United Women, Leicester City W.F.C., London City Lionesses, Tottenham Hotspur Women and West Ham United in a high-calibre lineup showcasing the depth and quality of the WSL.
Sonia Bompastor, Head Coach, Chelsea FC Women, said: "World Sevens Football presents an exciting opportunity for our team to test ourselves against world-class opposition in a unique and highly competitive environment. As only the second European edition of the tournament - and the first to be staged in London - it's a fantastic occasion for our supporters to see the team in action
one final time before the players head off for a well-earned summer break following a demanding season. We are looking forward to being part of what promises to be a brilliant event for our players and fans alike."
The W7F London Edition will take place from 28-30 May 2026 at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium, bringing fast-paced, high-intensity women’s football to one of London’s most dynamic sporting venues. An intimate ‘stadium within a stadium’ design will ensure every seat feels like the best seat in the house, whether you’re in the grandstand, on the supporter decks, or enjoying the action from the hospitality lounges and exclusive pitchside VIP cabanas.
Sarah Cummins, CEO of World Sevens Football, said: “We’re thrilled to have now confirmed all eight teams for our inaugural London Edition. This lineup reflects the strength, depth, and ambition of the women’s game in England, and we’re proud to bring these clubs together in a new format that’s built for both players and fans. Staging World Sevens in Brentford ahead of the FA Cup Final at Wembley means one city, two iconic stages and an unmissable few days for the
women’s game in London.
“Beyond the action on the pitch, we’re creating a unique environment, from high-energy supporter decks just feet from the action, to premium hospitality and cabana experiences, giving fans more ways than ever to enjoy the game. With non-stop entertainment, including a live DJ, W7F is designed to deliver an unforgettable festival-style atmosphere.”
Anita Asante, W7F Player Advisory Council member, said: “The WSL is one of the most competitive and exciting leagues in the world, and this lineup really reflects that. What’s special about the World Sevens format is how it brings out a different side of the game; it’s faster, more open, and gives players more opportunities to express themselves. Fans are going to see top players and teams in a completely new light across what will be an exciting three days of
football.”
Following their announcement last week, Lee Billiard, Leicester City’s Director of Women and Girls’ Football, said: “We’re pleased to be involved in World Sevens Football and look forward to seeing LCFC Women compete in what promises to be an exciting new format for the women’s game.
“The competition will give our players a different challenge, against strong opposition, a chance to see players' personalities shine in a different way and another opportunity to represent Leicester City on a national platform.
“As women’s football continues to grow, events like this can play an important role in showcasing the quality, personality and appeal of the game to new and existing audiences.”

About Chelsea FC Women
Chelsea FC Women (CFCW) is the most successful English team in the Women’s Super League era, based in the heart of London.
In the 2024/25 season, CFCW won an eighth domestic league title, its sixth in a row. That trophy triumph was part of a domestic Treble under head coach Sonia Bompastor that also included the Women’s League Cup and Women’s FA Cup, and an unbeaten record that season.
The same Treble had been achieved four seasons earlier, and in five other campaigns, two of the trophies were lifted, including in 2015 when the first Women’s FA Cup held at Wembley was won by the Blues, quickly followed by the club’s first Women’s Super League title. Emma Hayes was the coach in charge for this period of sustained high achievement and was one of the most successful managers in the women’s game.
Chelsea Women also regularly qualify for the Women’s Champions League and reached the final in 2021, as well as playing in the semi-finals in five more seasons.
The team currently play most of their home games at Kingsmeadow on the south-west edge of London. From the 2026/27 season, all Barclays Women’s Super League matches will be played at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Women, which has previously had the name Chelsea Ladies, became a fully financed part of Chelsea Football Club in 2005 having been associated with the club prior to then. The first side adopting the Chelsea name and the kit of the men’s team was formed shortly after the lifting of the Football Association’s ban on the female game in the early 1970s, and it was followed by a relaunched Chelsea Ladies more closely affiliated to the club in 1992.
Progress post-2005 ensured Chelsea became founder members of the Women’s Super League and the team played in the competition’s first-ever game in 2011.
Since then, Chelsea players have represented a variety of countries on the international stage, including supplying several of England’s successful Lionesses sides. CFCW has an academy which has developed players who have broken through for club and country. In common with the first team, the academy is based at Chelsea Football Club’s main training centre at Cobham.
In 2024, CFCW was repositioned to sit alongside, rather than beneath, Chelsea FC’s men’s team, with dedicated resources, management and commercial leadership, focused solely on the growth and success of the women’s team.
About Leicester City FC Women
LCFC Women was formed in 2004 and competes in the Barclays Women's Super League, the country's top division for women's football. It was acquired by King Power International in August 2020, coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of King Power's takeover of Leicester City Football Club. The team had professional status for the first time in August 2020 and earned promotion to the top division as FA Women's Championship winners in their first season. King Power's long-term commitment to the development of women's football in the area continued with LCFC Women moving football operations into Belvoir Drive in January 2021 to become the only women's team in the country with a dedicated elite facility, while an Academy pathway was announced in June 2021. In August 2021, it was confirmed that LCFC Women would play most of their home league games at King Power Stadium. In April 2024, the Club progressed to the semi-final of the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in its history.
