UNITED CLAIM TOP SPOT IN GROUP 2 AFTER PENALTY SHOOTOUT DRAMA

ESTORIL, PORTUGAL (22 May, 2025) — Manchester United edged past Paris Saint-Germain in a 7-6 penalty shootout win to top Group 2, after an intense 2-2 draw in regulation time and a goal-less golden goal period. Sakina Karchaoui opened the scoring for PSG inside the first minute, but United’s captain Maya Le Tissier responded with a powerful strike to level it at 1-1. After the break, Jennifer Echegimi put PSG back in front with her second goal of the day, before substitute Jessica Simpson restored parity again for United just a minute later. Neither side could find the winner in extra time, sending the match to penalties. Both teams converted all their spot-kicks until PSG's Grace Geyoro struck the bar in sudden death. That allowed United to seal the victory and first place in the group. PSG settle for second and will now face Bayern in tomorrow’s first semifinal, while United meet City in a high-stakes Manchester derby to decide who goes through to the final.
