World Sevens Football (W7F) has announced the first two elite professional women’s clubs set to compete in its second global tournament: Club América of Mexico and Clube de Regatas do Flamengo of Brazil. The event will bring together eight world-class teams for an action-packed weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a jaw-dropping $5 million prize pool.
Two-time Liga MX Femenil champion Club América is a powerhouse of Mexican women’s football, known for its attacking style and commitment to developing emerging talent.
Brazilian giants Flamengo bring a legacy of excellence to W7F, boasting one national title and eight Campeonato Carioca state championships, including the 2024 title. The club’s rich tradition and passionate fan base have made it a cornerstone of Brazilian football.
Building on the success of W7F’s debut in Portugal earlier this year, the Fort Lauderdale event will again showcase world-class athletes, thrilling 7v7 play, and the energy fans have come to expect.
"World Sevens Football is about more than just competition—it’s about creating a platform that inspires the next generation while celebrating the best in the game and paying these athletes a prize pool they deserve," said Jen Mackesy, Co-Founder of W7F. "Bringing together powerhouse clubs like Club América and Flamengo shows how deeply the women’s game is resonating across continents and we can’t wait to share the others joining us in Fort Lauderdale this December!”
“We know the foundation of World Sevens Football is the world-class athletes who play the game and the passionate communities who support them,” said Sarah Cummins, CEO of W7F. “As we prepare for our second tournament, our goal is simple: deliver the best possible experience for our players, fans, and partners. From the atmosphere in Fort Lauderdale to our broadcast around the world with DAZN, every decision we make is about raising standards, building excitement, and making every moment memorable for everyone who loves women’s football.”
The inaugural tournament in Estoril featured stars such as Pernille Harder, Kerolin Nicoli, Ella Toone, and Lily Yohannes, with Bayern München defeating Manchester United in a thrilling final.
