A week of empowerment and celebration in Estoril to break down barriers and open doors for young women
ESTORIL, PORTUGAL (23 May, 2025) — World Sevens Football is committed to driving positive social change in every community we visit. Through dedicated impact initiatives, we expand girls’ access to football, as well as celebrate and support local nonprofit organizations committed to women’s advancement.
This week in Estoril we proudly launched World Sevens Football Community Champions. In this initiative we partnered with leading local Lisbon-based nonprofits, CAIS, the Benfica Foundation, and Girls 4 Girls Portugal. Each of these exceptional organizations works tirelessly to deliver programs that break down barriers and open doors for young women. Each organization is receiving US $10,000 and multiple opportunities to share their work with our global community.
This week we also launched our Rising 7s program, which is designed to inspire the next generation by providing unique opportunities for girls to play, learn, and lead through football. Yesterday we hosted a Rising 7s clinic, at which 80 girls trained alongside football legends and W7F Player Advisory Council members Laura Georges, Tobin Heath, Kelley O’Hara, Anita Asante, and Caroline Seger. The clinic offered hands-on skills training, mentorship, and a special circle moment focused on confidence and leadership.
We also engaged the wider community by involving 16 boys and girls from Estoril Praia’s U-15 to U-17 academy teams as official ball kids for tournament sessions, promoting inclusivity and teamwork across age groups.
These initiatives reinforce our mission to combine elite competition with measurable social impact, setting a new standard for purpose-driven sports events.
